Water Sector

Africa’s rising population is driving demand for water and decreasing the availability of water resources. If governments don’t take radical action, the urban slum population in sub-Saharan Africa is expected to reach 400 million by 2020.

The number of people living in sub-Saharan Africa has nearly doubled in the last 25 years, but access to sanitation and water has improved minimally, leaving millions behind

It is reported that 115 people in Africa die every hour from diseases linked to poor sanitation, poor hygiene, and contaminated water. Most governments in Africa has identified water sector as one of the key areas identified for sustained efforts. Multilateral financial institutions have also been supporting these efforts.
